Cucumber Sasive | Tekkare Talli – Kotians Passion

Cucumber Sasive | Tekkare Talli with a detailed step by step photo and video recipe. A healthy and tasty side dish is also known as “tekkare challi” in the Tulu language (‘tekkare‘ means cucumber in Tulu). It is one of the popular side dishes of Udupi – Mangalore cuisine served along with rice just before rasam and sambar.

This “tekkare salli” refer to salad using grated coconut, green chilli and mustard seeds. This is one of the clean food which full of nutrients as there is no cooking involved. This tekkare talli can be prepared very easily if you are in a hurry and you need something healthy.

The word ‘sasive’ means mustard seeds in English. Cucumber sasive is an easy alternative in the hot summers. I personally love this out of all the sasive recipes.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium sized cucumber
  • 1 cup coconut grated
  • 1 green chilli
  • 1 tbsp mustard seed
  • salt to taste

for tempering

  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • ¼ tsp mustard seed
  • 1 red chilli broken
  • few curry leaves

Instructions

  • firstly, chop the cucumber finely and add salt. mix well and keep it aside.
  • further, in a blender add 1 cup coconut, 1 green chilli, 1 tbsp mustard seeds.
  • blend to a fine paste by adding water as required.
  • add the ground masala to finely chopped cucumber.
  • mix the coconut paste and cucumber well.
  • furthermore, heat 1 tbsp of oil in tadka pan, add ¼ tsp of mustard seeds, 1 broken red chilli and curry leaves.
  • when mustard seeds splutter pour the seasoning to the cucumber sasive.
  • finally, serve the cucumber sasive along with hot rice or with dosas and idlys.

  • use fresh cucumbers as they are tender and more juicy.
  • cucumber sasive can be stored in the refrigerator and consume the next day.
