Karandi Omelette | Fluffy Egg Omelette with a detailed photo and video recipe. Karandi omelette is a special yummy, cup-shaped fluffy egg omelette cooked in a ladle shaped tadka pan, Which is commonly used in preparing tadka tempering in Indian cooking. This pan is known by the name ‘karandi’ in Tamil. Hence the name of this omelette “karandi omelette”.
This is a dish that I stumbled upon by accident. A few years ago I was on a road trip to Kodaikanal, one of the state most favourite hill stations in Tamil Nadu. Karandi omelette is a very popular Street food in Tamil Nadu. An omelette might be a breakfast special but in Tamilnadu just like many other parts of India, it’s also a meal accompaniment. The karandi omelette works really well with biriyani or even rice and rasam. It is also a perfect tea time or coffee time snack for winter or when you had some comfort on a rainy day.

Karandi Omelette
Ingredients
- 3 eggs
- 1 onion chopped
- 1 green chilli finely chopped
- 1 tbsp capsicum chopped
- ¼ tsp red chilli powder
- pinch of turmeric powder
- salt to taste
- oil of ghee for cooking
Instructions
- crack 3 eggs, add 1 chopped onion, 1 finely chopped green chilli, 1 tbsp of capsicum, a pinch of turmeric powder, ¼ red chilli powder and salt to taste.
- give this mixture a good mix.
- in a karandi pan (tadka pan), heat some oil or ghee.
- pour the prepared egg mixture into the pan and cook on slow heat for 2 – 3 minutes.
- while the eggs are cooking, keep moving them from the sides to inside the pan so that eggs are fully cooked.
- once done flip gently to another side using a spoon and cook for a minute.
- remove from ladle and serve hot

- cook the omelette over low to medium heat otherwise the centre may be raw.
How to make Karandi Omelette with step by step photo:
