Kulukki Sarbath Recipe | Sweet And Spicy Shaken Lemonade | Refreshing Summer Drinks | Sharbat Recipes with a detailed photo and video recipe. This sweet-spicy shaken lemonade is a Kerala style refreshing summer drink. ‘Kulukki’ is a Malayalam word that means ‘shaken’ and ‘sarbath’, as well all know, means ‘juice’.

I am always on the lookout for refreshing drinks that can help me beat the heat this summer and Indian cuisine is full of refreshing drinks. From south to north, you will find so many summer drinks, that are made traditionally from years, as they help to cool down the body.

During one of the very many trips we take to Kerala, we tried kulukki sarbath for the first time and we fell in love with it. After I returned home tried this recipe at home, I just loved it. Kulukki sarbath is not only mine but even my husband’s favourite. So the days when we just want to chill in the summer evenings, I make this drink and spend our evenings in the garden.

The list of the ingredients for kulukki sarbath is simple- lemon juice, sabja seeds, green chilli and sugar. So all these ingredients are added into a shaker and shaken until the flavour are well incorporated. The sabja seeds come with a lot of health benefits apart from acting as a great coolant, helpful especially during hot summers. If you are someone like me, who doesn’t like plain lemonade, then this recipe is for you.

Kulukki sarbath is a Kerala style refreshing summer drink. 'Kulukki' is a Malayalam word that means 'shaken' and sarbath, as well all know, means juice. It is a sweet and spice shaken lemonade.

Ingredients

  • 2 lemon slice
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 small green chilli slitted
  • 1 tbsp sugar powdered
  • 2 tsp sabja seeds
  • pinch of salt
  • cup water
  • few mint leaves
  • some ice cubes

Instructions

  • First soak sabja seeds in enough water for 5 minutes. It would become jelly alike.
  • Now take a shaker or blending jar add sliced lemon, lemon juice, slit green chilli, sugar, pinch of salt, mint leaves, soaked chia seeds and water.
  • Close with lid of shaker and shake rigorously for at least 5 seconds.
  • Now open and add few ice cubes to serving glass and pour the sarbath, serve chilled.

Notes

  • Use a tall container with tight lid which does not leak because we used to shake it rigorously. I used a simple blending jar with lid.
  • Adjust sweetness according to taste.
  • You can replace the lemon juice with orange juice or mango juice.

How to make kulukki sarbath with step by step photo:

  • First soak the 2 tsp of sabja seeds in enough water for 5 minutes. It would become jelly alike.
  • Now take shaker or blending jar add 2 slice of lemon, one tbsp lemon juice, two slit green chilli.
  • Further, add one tbsp powdered sugar, pinch of salt, few mint leaves.
  • Finally, add 2 tsp soaked sabja seeds and one and half cup of water. Close with lid and shake vigorously for at least 5 seconds.
  • Now open and few ice cubes to serving glass and pour the sarbath and serve chilled.
