Mangalorean Pineapple Sasive | Pineapple Gojju | Ananas Sasive | Easy Pineapple Recipe with a detailed photo and video recipe. Pineapple sasive one of the healthiest & clean food which is full of nutrients there is no cooking involved.

If you attend any wedding or a festive celebration in Udupi – Mangalore surrounding regions you would see something like a chutney that is full of mustard flavours and smell ( not to be confused with pineapple menaskai, which has a totally different masala ). Mangalorean Pineapple Sasive is more like a chutney where you eat it raw, the pineapple pieces are just dunked in this masala. Ananas Sasive tastes great as a side dish to a simple meal of rice and dal.

Basically sasive/sasime one of the authentic preparation of Karnataka. Sasive means mustard seed in English. Sassive is generally prepared by grinding mustard, coconut, chilli and could use verities of vegetables and fruits like cucumber, ripe mango, grapes, pineapple, apple etc…

Using sassive ( mustard seed ) as main ingredients we make a kind of gojju or chutney is called sasime. Depending on what other main ingredients we use it could be onion sassive, mango sassive, cucumber sassive, mixed fruits sassive.

Few essential things to keep in mind to make authentic pineapple sasive are firstly, adding a tsp of mustard seeds give a beautiful aroma to the sasive ( chutney ) along with pungent taste. Secondly, blend the coconut to fine paste to enjoy the real flavour. finally, tempering with coconut oil is a must while preparing pineapple sasive as it increases the aroma of the dish.

Furthermore some important tips and recommendations for this delicious pineapple sasive. Firstly, make sure to select ripe and juicy pineapple or ananas for this recipe. Hear I used moderate, sweet and sour pineapple hence I derived the below preparation of ingredients for pineapple sasive. In addition, if you end up having sour pineapple, the jaggary quantity may have to be increased accordingly. Lastly, the same recipe can be followed by sweet mangoes and cucumber.

Ingredients

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup pineapple

To blend:

  • 3 byadagi red chilli dry
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 cup coconut grated
  • 1 tbsp jaggery

For tempering:

  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • ½ tsp mustard seed
  • 1 red chilli dry
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • few curry leaves

Instructions

  • Firstly, chop the pineapple finely and keep it aside.
  • Further in a small blender, add coconut, mustard seeds, red chilli, salt and jaggery together.
  • Blend to fine paste adding water as required.
  • Transfer grounded coconut paste to large bowl and add finely chopped pineapple, mix well.
  • Further more, heat kadai, add coconut oil, mustard seed, garlic and red chilli and curry leaves.
  • When the mustard seeds splutter pour the seasoning to the sassive.
  • Finally, serve pineapple sasmi along with hot rice or with dosa, idli.

Notes

  • Adjust the sweetness, sourness and spiciness based on pineapple.
  • Furthermore, substitute with sweet mango/cucumber. In addition to this, you can add grapes, apple, banana-like mixed fruits with different flavours.
  • While grinding coconut, use hot water so that the coconut paste does not curdle.
  • Select ripe and juicy pineapple or ananas for the recipe.
  • Finally, pineapple sassime can be stored in the refrigerator and consume the next day.

How to make pineapple sassive with step by step photo:

Masala preparation:

  • In a small blender, add 1 cup of grated coconut
  • Same blender add 3 byadagi red chilli
  • Further add 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tbsp of jaggery . Adjust sweetness based on pineapple.
  • Salt according to your taste.
  • Blend to fine paste adding water as required.
  • Transfer grounded coconut paste to a large bowl and add finely chopped 1 cup pineapple. Mix well.
  • For tempering heat kadai, add 1 tbsp coconut oil.
  • 1/2 tsp of mustard seed
  • Add 2 cloves garlic
  • Further more one red chilli and few curry leaves.
  • When the mustard seeds splutter pour the seasoning to the sasime and mix well.
  • Finally, serve pineapple sasive along with hot rice or with dose idli etc..
