The paan milkshake is a mouth-watering combination of paan and rose gulkand with spices and ice cream and milk combination. Which melts in your mouth and tickles your taste buds. Every sip of this aromatic paan drink will send a lovely tingle down your spine. Also, this paan drink is easy to make and can make it when you have guests coming for dinner. Betel leaf is commonly consumed as ‘paan‘ in India and other parts of southeast Asia. ‘Paan‘ is Indians favourite after-meal ritual is essentially a betel leaf stuffed with various things like areca nut, slaked lime, mouth fresheners etc… What started as a simple after meal idea to do away with the taste and smell of food, has taken a unique turn over the years. In india there are different varities of paan like, bangala paan, mitha paan, malai paan, calcutta paan and banaras paan etc…

For people who enjoy paan, converting the traditional paan drink will be a good idea. I picked on that idea and make these paan milkshakes. Scorching summer is here and what better time than this to make these shots for your family? This drink has the essential ingredients of paan like betel leaf, sanuf/fennel seeds, cardamom, gulkand and additionally for milkshake you have to add milk and ice cream.

We have beautifully grown betel vine in our backyard. We get a lot of fresh betel leaves and that I used in this milkshake. Otherwise, you would ideally get betel leaves from a local paan vendor or from any grocery store in your area in India. Get or pick them on the day you desire to make the drink. So that they are nice, fresh and green!. Gulkand is another main ingredient in this drink. Gulkand is a mixture of rose petals and sugar one can easily find that in any Indian sweet shops.

Ingredients

MILKSHAKE MIX (PAAN GULKAND MIX)

  • 5 betel leaves
  • 2 tsp fennel seeds sanuf
  • 4 tsp sugar
  • 4 pods cardamom
  • 1 tbsp gulkand
  • 2 to 3 tbsp water

FOR MILKSHAKE

  • 300 ml milk boiled and cooled
  • 2 scoops vanilla/malai ice cream
  • 4 tbsp milkshake mix paan gulkand mix

Instructions

  • Take 5 fresh betel leaves and wash well. Tear the leaves into small pieces and add them into a blender.
  • Same blender add fennel seeds, sugar, cardamom and gulkand. add little water and grind the mixture finely to get paan – gulkand paste/mix. This milkshake mix can be stored in an airtight container for a week inside the refrigerator.
  • Now take a blending jar and add milk, paan gulkand mix, 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream, gulkand and blend well.
  • Pour it into serving glass and serve.

  • You may add various kinds of fruits of your choice to make milkshake more nutritious and flavoursome.
  • You can garnish with dry fruits.

How to make paan milkshake with step by step photo:

  • Take 5 fresh betel leaves and wash well. Tear the leaves into small pieces and add them into a blender.
  • Same blender add 2 tsp of fennel seeds
  • Add 4 tsp of sugar.
  • four pods of cardamom to enhance flavor.
  • further, add one tbsp of gulkand and add 2 to 3 tbsp of water and grind the mixture finely to get paan – gulkand paste/mix. This milkshake mix can be stored in an airtight container for a week inside the refrigerator.
  • Now take a blending jar and add 300 ml of boiled and cooled milk.
  • Furthermore, add prepared 4 tbsp of paan gulkand mix.
  • Finally, add 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream and blend well.
  • Pour it onto serving glass and serve!
